Technology

Tireless innovation has made OCHSNER one of the leading exponents of heat pump technology.
For instance, OCHSNER was the first European heat pump manufacturer to introduce the chlorine-free refrigerants R134a and R407C, and it has held the world efficiency record for years with tested energy efficiency ratios for air source heat pumps and for domestic hot water heat pumps (more details available from the heat pump test centre (WPZ) in Buchs, Switzerland).

 

Advancement through technology

OCHSNER is the only manufacturer to have its own test laboratories for all heat pump types and for all systems (water, air and geothermal heat, brine and direct expansion) and for high capacity heat pumps up to 500 kW. Here we test and measure the heat pumps under all typically occurring operating conditions. Acceptance procedures comply with applicable international standards and quality guidelines.
State-of-the-art technical facilities enable our scientific and technical staff to constantly refine and develop our products. Indeed, they are one of the prerequisites for technological advancement. For our customers this means very low running cost, exceptional operational safety and a long service life.

Here are a few examples of innovations which have had a direct impact on the efficiency and operational safety of our heat pumps:

  • OVi technology (vapour injection intercooling with air/water heat pumps) for maximum coefficients of performance even with high flow temperatures of up to 65°C (Golf plus) and outdoor temperatures of -20°C
  • High quality scroll compressors with double pressure compensation for maximum coefficients of performance even with high flow temperatures (Golf plus)
  • OA-X2 system (unique selling proposition): internal expansion unit for efficient defrosting with air as the heat source and excellent energy efficiency ratios in active cooling mode (Golf)
  • OeCC technology (electronic cooling circuit controller) for maximum seasonal performance factors and very low running cost (Golf GMLW range - air as heat source)
  • Gas phase manager (GFM) for full utilisation of ground collectors and maximum efficiency in direct expansion (Golf)
  • Millennium supersplit evaporator (MSV/SSVD) with fully-modulated fan for outstanding energy efficiency ratios (very low running cost) with air as the heat source
  • Special energy-saving low-speed fan in supersplit evaporators for ultra-quiet operation and very low power consumption, which means very low running cost (fully modulated)
  • Super-saving defrost control with special electronic control system only defrosts when absolutely necessary and for the shortest possible time. Very low running cost even when the weather is damp and foggy. (Golf)
  • High-performance rotary piston compressor for hot water heating up to max. 65°C for maximum efficiency and very low running cost (Europa domestic hot water heat pumps)
  • high capacity heat pumps based on the latest technology and optimised for use with an flow temperature of up to 65°C (up to 1000 kW thermal)
  • Geothermal direct expansion with an flow temperature of 65°C and active cooling (with OA-X2 system and gas phase manager)
  • High-performance CO2 probes with 40 mm stainless steel corrugated pipe. Guaranteed precision evaporation of the film of liquid CO2 in the heat pipe. No pump as auxiliary drive, so maximum energy efficiency ratios for the heat source system. Probe depth to 100 metres.
  • Energy-saving brine pump for geothermal brine systems and energy-saving trickle charge pump as standard in the Golf range.
